The characteristic green or mustard color of Tamegroute pottery is due to a combination of manganese, silicon, and copper. Although the amount of copper is minimal, this ingredient is exactly what provides the beautiful green color. Tamegroute is a small village in southern Morocco. The manufacturing of Tamegroute products is known to only 7 families from the village of the same name, Tamegroute. These 7 families each have their own kiln and workshop where they offer their Tamegroute products. Since many products are made and the kilns are not large enough, the products are stacked on top of each other using three-point spacers. This creates the characteristic scar found on almost every Tamegroute product.
