Le Chatelard 1802 Marseille soap sandalwood – natural soap with almond oil

This Marseille soap with sandalwood is handcrafted in the Le Chatelard 1802 workshops in St Auban sur Ouvèze, in the French Provence. The soap is enriched with sweet almond oil and has a pH-neutral formula, so it does not dry out your skin. It produces a rich lather and is subtly scented.

How the soap is made

Water from the Mediterranean Sea is mixed with olive oil, sometimes supplemented with other vegetable oils, sodium carbonate, and sodium hydroxide. This mixture is heated in a large cauldron for several days while being constantly stirred. It is then poured into molds to harden, after which the soap is cut and stamped. The entire process takes up to a month.
