Qatraan is another name for juniper tar, which is what this soap is made with. In the past, older branches, roots, and the trunk of the juniper tree were cut, mixed with earth, and burned in an earthenware jug to create the tar. The watery tar oil that resulted was left to settle at the bottom before use.
