The Consequences of Sin for the Individual and Society

O Muslims, verily that which has befallen the people in terms of disadvantages and setbacks in both their economic situation and security, whether as an individual or a community, is the result of their disobedience and negligence in fulfilling the commands of Allaah, forgetting the prescribed laws of Allaah, and invoking laws other than the prescribed laws of Allaah to judge between the people. He is the One who created the creation and is more merciful to them than their mothers and fathers and has more knowledge of their interests than they themselves.

O Muslims, I repeat this sentence because of its importance and because many people turn away from it. I say (once again): O Muslims, verily, that which has befallen the people in terms of disadvantages and setbacks in both their economic situation and security, whether as an individual or a community, is the result of their disobedience and negligence in fulfilling the commands of Allaah, forgetting the prescribed laws of Allaah, and invoking laws other than the prescribed laws of Allaah to judge between the people. He is the One who created the creation and is more merciful to them than their mothers and fathers and has more knowledge of their interests than they themselves. Allaah says in His Book to clarify this situation so that we are warned and so that we realize, He (the Exalted) says:

﴾وَمَا أَصَابَكُمْ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُو عَنْ كَثِيرٍ﴿
“And whatever calamity befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned, and He pardons much.”
